Pod casting, this term was taken from Apple Computer Corporation’s iPod, because it lets the user download the series of audio or video files directly from computer. Pod casting refers to same functionality. According to Wikipedia, “A podcast is a series of digital media files (either audio or video) that are released episodically and often downloaded through web syndication.” The series of files are located on the distributor’s server as a web feed & when the new files are uploaded they are automatically detected & downloaded. Now, probably the question on your mind is, “How these files are updated & downloaded automatically?” Well, the client application software known as pod catcher plays this role here. It accesses the web feed and checks it for updates, then it downloads the files automatically.Pod casting is in great use in corporate world. But now, the academic world is also moving towards it. Professors of different colleges in the UK are recording & uploading their lectures on a common server so that students can download the files and can learn & listen anywhere, anytime!
