Looking for a Great Jobs ? Take Some Tips From Politicians on Messaging & Rapport

I was watching TV the other day & being bombarded with the endless stream of political ads for the season, when it hit me. What if we had to campaign for jobs? What would happen if everyone had to identify a position they wanted within a company & then prove that they were the best for that job against other candidates? How would you position yourself? Well, how does a candidate do it?First, the candidate finds out what the issues are in the minds of the voters. In the case of your job search, the job description gives you some idea about the needs of the interviewer. In order to win their vote, you’ll need to convince them that you are the best person to address their needs. And you need to do that from the moment you decide to submit your resume. It needs to be crystal clear in your resume that you’re able to address all of their needs (or at least the majority of them), your cover letter should illuminate some of the more stellar experiences you have that again directly prove that you’re the perfect candidate for the job.

Now think about all of the advertising you see for a particular candidate. They’ve only got 30 or 60 seconds of a TV commercial to win your vote; do they waste a lot of time telling you details that you don’t care about, or do they focus their message? Each advertisement stresses where that candidate stands on a particular point. It’s clear, it’s concise, it’s to the point. Your soundbites in interviews should be the same way. Don’t ramble on for 4 minutes giving an answer that doesn’t tell the interviewer what they’re looking for. If you think that you did ramble, stop yourself & have the poise & presence of mind to say “Gosh, it felt like I was rambling on there a bit, did I answer your question, because I’m really not sure that I did.” Everyone rambles at times but admitting that you got a little ahead of yourself, & that you’re trying to help the interviewer get the information they need about your background shows that you’re a pulled-together person and cool under pressure. I’m pretty sure that most interviewers would be interested in that.Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/5588819
