There are some magnificent hotels in Pitlochry that cater for the many visitors who come to get away from it all during the summer months. The historic town in Highland Perthshire has a number of grand Victorian mansion houses that in modern times act as hotels & play an important role in the tourist industry for Pitlochry & Perthshire. It is easy to see why the organisers of the race chose Pitlochry & the surrounding area to host the race – beautiful scenery, roads with tough ascents & swooping descents make the area ideal for road cyclists who enjoy a good work out. Of course, mountain bikers have plenty of options with forestry tails in abundance around town. Those who enjoy water sports are able to take part in a host of activities on rivers such as The Garry or The Tummel. Canyoning, White Water Rafting & Kayaking are just some of the sports that prove very popular with holiday makers and locals alike. However, Pitlochry also has a cultural side – if you are exhausted from all the outdoor activities head to the Pitlochry Festival Theatre to watch a play or a musical. Alternatively whisky lovers should sample a tour at one of Pitlochry’s distilleries. There is also a local brewery at Moulin where connoisseurs of a good pint must visit.
