Magnificent Pitlochry Hotel

There are some magnificent hotels in Pitlochry that cater for the many visitors who come to get away from it all during the summer months. The historic town in Highland Perthshire has a number of grand Victorian mansion houses that in modern times act as hotels & play an important role in the tourist industry for Pitlochry & Perthshire. Whilst these buildings may no longer house the Lord of the Manor, they have lost none of the charm that made them such enticing habitations in the first place. Pitlochry is very well located for outdoor sports enthusiasts. The surrounding hills & countryside are playgrounds for those who love being outside. Walkers can amble along paths that follow the surrounding rivers & lochs. Alternatively, the energetic can get in to the foothills of the Cairngorm National Park & bag a few Munros. A ‘warm-up’ of sorts is possible by hiking the imposing peak of Ben y Vrackie, a summit that towers over the town yet falls just sort of Munro status.

Keen cyclists will also enjoy the quiet roads & challenging (or easier) routes that can be tailored depending on ability & energy levels. Pitlochry is the location of the first Cycle Sportive event which has a course that is fully closed to traffic during the event. It is easy to see why the organisers of the race chose Pitlochry & the surrounding area to host the race – beautiful scenery, roads with tough ascents & swooping descents make the area ideal for road cyclists who enjoy a good work out. Of course, mountain bikers have plenty of options with forestry tails in abundance around town. Those who enjoy water sports are able to take part in a host of activities on rivers such as The Garry or The Tummel. Canyoning, White Water Rafting & Kayaking are just some of the sports that prove very popular with holiday makers and locals alike. However, Pitlochry also has a cultural side – if you are exhausted from all the outdoor activities head to the Pitlochry Festival Theatre to watch a play or a musical. Alternatively whisky lovers should sample a tour at one of Pitlochry’s distilleries. There is also a local brewery at Moulin where connoisseurs of a good pint must visit.
