Flight To Ireland : Airport

Today with air travel being so cheap there is no excuse for not fulfilling a life time ambition of taking a flight to Ireland & seeing the Emerald Isle. Ireland, both north & south, is now a very affordable place to take a vacation & with the great variety of accommodation available the tourist is well catered for. The country has a large number of attractions to see both historical and contemporary & with the country only being about 300 miles north to south and no greater than 140 miles east to west all tourist sites are within convenient motoring distance. The country has 12 airports, 3 in Northern Ireland & 9 in the Republic of Ireland although only 4 of these could be considered to be major international airports. Dublin airport is the largest while Sligo airport is the smallest in terms of flight numbers. The UK has the greatest number of air route connections with airports in Ireland. Dublin Airport, located about 6 miles to the north of Dublin City is the largest airport in Ireland.

It has scheduled flights to Ireland from the UK, Europe, the US, Canada, the Middle East, & North Africa. It also has scheduled flights from some of the airports within the Republic of Ireland. Prior to 2008 some flights from the US to Dublin had been required by law to touchdown at Shannon Airport but this requirement has now been lifted. As a consequence, Aer Lingus & other airlines have increased their routes from the United States to Dublin. Northern Ireland has 3 main airports, Belfast International Airport, George Best Belfast City Airport & City of Derry Airport. Belfast International has flights from mainland UK, Europe & North America. Belfast City Airport & City of Derry Airport have domestic flight connections with the UK. Visitors coming to Northern Ireland usually fly into one of these 3 airports & City of Derry is also convenient for tourists visiting Count Donegal in the northwest of the Republic of Ireland. Donegal has a small regional airport with flights to Dublin & Glasgow (2011).
