THE TRUTH ABOUT BEING A PILOT!!

It is the common misconception of the ordinary person that all pilots are filthy rich because they take home huge salaries in exchange for working just a few hours each month. Although this may be true in some limited cases, particularly for senior captains who get paid $200,000 or more per year, the truth is that most pilots earn a lot less than people assume. Therefore, if your only reason for wanting to become a pilot is the supposedly massive income, you better stop & think again. It is certainly possible for you to earn upwards of $200,000 annually as a pilot – as mentioned, many senior captains are earning this amount & sometimes even more. However, it will take a long time & a lot of hard work & endless sacrifices before you reach that status.

When you begin your career as a pilot in any airline company, you will have to begin at the bottom rung of the ladder. If you are lucky enough to be employed by a major international airline, you may be entitled to a really good rate of approximately $40 per hour. Most airlines offer a guaranteed 70 to 75 hours of flying time each month. By doing the math, it’s easy to see that this equates to a fairly decent income. But not all airlines can afford to give substantial salaries, especially to new pilots who don’t have much flying experience. The pay that you can expect to get from a regional or local airline is far lower, sometimes amounting to just $15 per hour, which certainly doesn’t sound glamorous at all. Of course, if you are able to put in more hours of work each month, your overall pay can increase considerably, although you do have to exert a lot of hard work & be completely focused on your work for the first few years of your career. Furthermore, with the state of the aviation industry these days, landing a job as a pilot can be quite a challenge. But best of all, you will be qualified for a higher pay rate, bringing you closer to earning the considerable pilot’s salary that had been one of your primary goals to begin with. The truth about being a pilot is that it is not nearly as glamorous as people assume it to be, particularly in the beginning. But once you do overcome all the challenges & are finally made senior captain, you can finally enjoy all the perks & benefits that you’ve always heard of.
