Lancaster London Hotels : A ..“Hive” .. of Activity

Situated right by Hyde Park, the Lancaster London is certainly close enough to nature to please those who are looking for a greener stay in the capital. Yet the hotel’s management have taken this one step further, by making it the first hotel in London to keep its own beehives. London has always been a “buzzing” metropolis & at the Lancaster they have taken this literally by creating a haven for lots of bees on the hotel’s roof. A dedicated team of beekeepers tend to the bees & harvest the sweet, sticky honey they produce. This is then served to guests at the hotel’s restaurant, & wax from the hives is made into souvenir gift candles.

The Lancaster (formerly the Royal Lancaster) recently won a Bronze Award for green tourism & in 2008 it won another award for sustainable tourism. These & the aforementioned bee initiative are firm evidence of a hotel which it takes its responsibilities towards the environment seriously indeed. On the TripAdvisor website, many guests are impressed by these green initiatives & the hotel’s sweeping views over Hyde Park (available for a small room supplement). Currently ranked number in the top quartile from more than a thousand London hotels, the Lancaster is not yet in the top flight of accommodation in the capital. But it does certainly offer fair pricing & efficient service. The hotel also recognises that its accommodation is not perfect & actively works on addressing any issues raised by guests.
