Two new hotels are opening in Alberta, both featuring urban flair, but in two diverse locales. The Hotel Le Germain Calgary is located on 899 Centre Street South, near the Calgary Tower, & the Grande Rockies Resort is on Mountain Street in Canmore. Metropolitan Hotels is the owner of the Grande Rockies Resort, which will open May 1. The hotel is currently accepting reservations, & it represents the company’s fourth of the Metropolitan line. Other hotels are located in Toronto & Vancouver. The new property is a breed apart from typical ski lodgings, which tend to resemble Swiss chalets in one form or another. Holly Wood, a spokesperson for Metropolitan Hotels, said that the hotel acknowledges its mountain setting, but is much more contemporary in design. Quebec-based Groupe Germain is a family-owned company that operates specialty lodgings in Toronto, Quebec City & Montreal.
The Hotel Le Germain opened for business the week of February 28. Both hotels target guests that appreciate amenities, or who might want to enjoy a few nights of stylish luxury. The Grande Rockies Resort is clad in cedar & trimmed in river rock. The interior is lush, with crystal chandeliers & a bar made of marble. Its suites accommodate up to six guests. Their fully fitted kitchens include granite countertops, appliances dressed in stainless steel & a breakfast bar. Sofas conceal hide-a-beds, & the rooms feature large flat-screen TVs & fireplaces. One-unit washers & dryers hide in the closets. Bathrooms are fitted with luxury shower units. A ballroom accommodates up to 150 guests. An indoor pool is under construction. In the Hotel Le Germain Calgary, guests will view deep-hued granite flooring & a check-in area clad in onyx. The first-floor lounge morphs from a cocktail bar to a coffee shop. The guest rooms are spacious, & sport high ceilings & windows that really open. Built-in cabinets add to the overall feeling of space. The beds are lush with linens from Italy.
