Ellensburg- Washington is a city of 17000 located in the central part of the state. It is the seat of Kittitas County in a largely rural, agricultural area at the eastern edge of the Cascade Mountains. Ellensburg’s dry open terrain is a stark contract to the green, urban environment of the Seattle area, which is a less than two-hour drive. The city is also home to Central Washington University, which has an enrollment of about 8,000 students, nearly half of the city’s population. Ellensburg is the largest city on Interstate 90 in the 170-mile stretch between Bellevue & Moses Lake. The city attracts visitors for a variety of reasons. Two of the most popular annual events are the Ellensburg Rodeo, which is held each Labor Day Weekend in conjunction with Kittitas County Fair.

The Ellensburg Rodeo is a stop on the PRCA professional rodeo circuit & is the largest rodeo in the state. Ellensburg also hosts an annual Jazz in the Valley music festival the last weekend of each July. Numerous major hotel chains have locations in Ellensburg including Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites, Comfort Inn, Days Inn, Super 8, Hampton Inn, & Quality Inn. Other lodging options include the Thunderbird Lodge, the I-90 Inn, & the Inn at Goose Creek. Ellensburg numerous other accommodation options including Bed & Breakfasts, campgrounds, RV parking, & guest ranches. The hotels in Ellensburg are concentrated on Canyon Road near Interstate-90 with nightly rates typically ranging from about $60 to $130. Rates may be lower on weekdays & in the wintertime. During summer weekends, particularly during the Ellensburg Rodeo & the Jazz in the Valley music festival, visitors should book reservations well in advance.
