Building and Managing a Great High School Soccer Program

The accompanying meeting is with Coach Bill Bratton, who was my Soccer Coach at Cross Keys High School in Atlanta, Georgia for the school year 1989-1990. I asked him for a meeting to share his considerations on Soccer. He has been associated with Soccer for more than 25 years so I needed to get his feedback regarding the matter. Hi Coach, you have been instructing secondary school soccer for more than 25 years. How could you initially engage in the game? Hello there Stafford and much obliged. Well I began training soccer in 1982 in DeKalb County in my first year instructing at Sequoyah High. The past mentor had left & the school required somebody to mentor. The chief offered me the chance to assume control over the program. How was that experience for you and how could you plan for this new job as a High School Soccer Coach? I will concede I had never played or trained soccer. In the slow time of year I invested energy planning and learning by understanding books and going to facilities. I will likewise concede that the players find out about the abilities, the arrangements & what it took to play the game than I however it was the instructing association of assembling a group to play as a group that was my solidarity. I truly appreciated instructing soccer once I dominated the information I required.

How since quite a while ago did you mentor at Sequoyah and how could you wind up at Cross Keys?

Mentor Bill Bratton:

I trained Sequoyah for a very long time before DeKalb started a solidification program and I moved to Cross Keys in 1986. I had the advantage of training the Keys program for the following 20 years. I acquired my Georgia class D instructing permit just as a Class C level National Coaching permit from the USSF. The circumstance at Cross Keys was similar as Sequoyah, they required another soccer mentor & the AP who might turn into the chief offered me the position.

How was the circumstance at Cross Keys, and what did it take to construct the program?

Mentor Bill Bratton:

It took difficult work and discipline to assemble the program. My work included remaking a program. It had lost its association, discipline was amuck, & the program wasn’t winning, only a long time from completing third in the state. I needed to join discipline into the program and to show players what playing in a school cutthroat group implied and was expected to win. This advancement planned to require numerous years to finish.

Players would advise me “Mentor we simply need to play”. Cross Keys was a profoundly transient school. It was a consistent modifying progress each year. They had no comprehension of playing collectively, that they needed to come to rehearse, to submit, & to be fruitful they needed to play collectively. As I think back that required 2-3 years to get across. When we arrived at the reason behind players returning reliably, I began ingraining in the players that we were playing to win. They were playing in a cutthroat climate. On the off chance that they simply needed to play there were rec groups, club groups, and different associations they could go and “simply play”. There were groups that we could beat just dependent on ability & expertise alone so we needed to begin dominating those matches. Gradually players began to see, yet they had no information on what playing for a State Championship” was or implied. In any case, we began to dominate matches we ought to of and the time had come to go to a higher level, dominating games that were 50-50. Again this level required 3-4 years to create. I continually needed to lecture the groups what we were out there to achieve. We needed to dominate matches & create.
